Therapy Services

Because mental health includes our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships, mental health therapists help clients grow and heal in these areas. Our team of therapists works with individuals, couples, and families on a wide range of challenges, such as depression and anxiety, behavioral issues, family concerns, and major life stressors.

You can feel confident that your therapist is highly trained to serve you with research-supported tools, including approaches such as:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Gottman Couples Therapy
  • Adlerian Play and Sand Tray Therapy
  • Somatic Therapies, including Trauma-Responsive Yoga and Somatic Experiencing
  • Trauma-Focus Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Therapy services begin with an initial intake assessment where you and your therapist will explore your present concerns as well as history across life domains. Your therapist will use this information to determine a diagnosis and to work with you on goals for the therapy process, such as developing coping skills, improving mood and life engagement, strengthening relationships, or healing past trauma.

Therapy is typically provided by licensed social workers, mental health counselors, or marriage and family therapists. Therapists hold a master’s degree and complete additional training in specific interventions. Our therapists work closely with medication management and community support providers, as well as any other supports that you feel are appropriate, such as school staff or faith leaders.

Therapy Groups

Group therapy is an outpatient hospital service covered by most major insurance. Myrtue Mental Health offers several therapy group options.

Movement Therapy

Movement Therapy helps to strengthen connection for healing and wholeness. This includes the mind-body connection and connections with other people.

  • Begin with an individual session to prepare for group
  • Small closed groups for privacy
  • Dress for comfort
  • Mats available or you can bring your own

Movement Therapy helps to mend and transform the nervous system. In this therapy group, clients learn the protective patterns of the nervous system, how to track the felt sensations throughout the body, and how to release stuck patterns. These stuck patterns can lead to physical illness, anger, irritability, rapidly fluctuating moods, aggression, and avoidance. In addition to learning the science of the nervous system, clients will learn movement and breath techniques that aid in the release of the stuck patterns and associated trauma while healing the body and mind.

Movement Therapy for Families

Movement Therapy for Families helps kids and their grown-ups become more calm, curious, and connected. This group is currently paused.

  • Tailored groups for younger and older children
  • Evidenced-based tools to manage anger and anxiety, behavior challenges, and stressful experiences
  • Practices to build the mind-body connection and parent-child connection

Research shows body-based strategies are essential for managing anger and anxiety, behavior challenges, and stressful experiences. Movement Therapy for Families uses a variety of evidenced-based techniques to teach kids and parents how to feel safe, calm, and balanced. Kids and their caregivers learn movement and breathing practices that help release stuck stress patterns and build a healthy body and mind. Each family will have a pre-session for assessment and orientation.
