Myrtue Medical Center Laboratory is a CLIA-certified, State of Iowa-accredited laboratory. Our team of professional technologists and technicians is trained in laboratory testing and works hand in hand with our skilled phlebotomists and lab assistants. We are on duty around the clock to collect blood and conduct tests requested on an emergency basis. Our services include general chemistry, immunology, serology, hematology, coagulation, and blood bank. In addition, the laboratory features microbiology, toxicology and therapeutic drug level monitoring. Our laboratory performs approximately 340,000 laboratory tests each year. Most of our testing is done in-house; however, some testing must be sent to our reference lab, Physician’s Laboratory, in Omaha, Nebraska.
The practice of modern medicine would be impossible without the tests performed by the clinical laboratory. Laboratory test results are among the most important and helpful tools used in medicine today. In fact, 60-80% of health care decisions affecting the diagnosis and treatment of disease are determined on laboratory results. Therefore, the foremost goal of Myrtue Medical Center’s laboratory is to provide accurate and reliable test results to our health care providers for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Another important goal of our laboratory is to promote customer service to our community by being a certified drug and alcohol collection facility and a paternity testing collection site, and by offering health fairs in the spring and fall.
