Mental illnesses are biologically based, and sometimes medications can be very helpful in addressing physical barriers to mental health. If psychiatric medication is part of your care, Myrtue Mental Health Center's psychiatrists and advanced practice nurse practitioners offer ongoing care. If you are not sure if medications would be a helpful part of your treatment, a psychiatric practitioner can be of great assistance to you to explore your options.
A psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner or physician's assistant will give you an initial assessment similar to what a primary care provider might do. This initial appointment will review your symptoms and history to help determine whether or not the medication is a good option in the treatment of your mental health concerns.
Then as a result of the assessment, a diagnosis is made and a treatment plan is designed for your particular needs. If medication is decided to be the best option, you will be informed and educated about the medicinal uses and side effects.
Medications are often used with other forms of treatment like therapy or community support services. Our medication management providers work closely with the rest of the Mental Health Center team to provide coordinated care for all your mental health needs. Our team also works closely with any prescribing primary care providers.
