The Petersen Family Wellness Center hosts many health and wellness classes throughout the year. You can find the latest updates on classes and schedules on this page.

Sit & Be Fit

Sit & Be Fit is a 30-minute class instructed from a chair designed for beginners, seniors, or individuals with limited physical conditions. Using hand-held weights, resistance bands and balls, this class includes exercises that focus on strength, flexibility, balance and functional fitness. Join Jackie Alberti to enhance your overall well-being and quality of life.

Turbo Kick

Is the work out that doesn’t feel like work. Pack each workout with calorie-blasting cardio, kickboxing, body-sculpting, and dance moves set to the hottest music ever. You’re scorching fat and sizzling calories… it’s fast, it’s fun, it works. Join Marie Boggess on Tue/Thu evenings.

Cycle & Strength

Head to toe workout with the combination of indoor cycling and strength training intervals using weights and bands. You will be on and off the bike throughout the class. Instructed by Melissa Boettger

Power Walk, Abs & Barre

A walking class with abdominal exercises and ballet barre. This is a lower intensity workout that is great for improving flexibility and balance. Instructed by Mel Pryor

Bootcamp – Saturday Mornings at 7:30 am

Whether you’ve hit a wall after years of training or have trained for years, you will test your courage and stamina. Allison will take you on a fun course of activity. Maybe going outside and practicing your agility or interval training. Please join Allison Taylor on Saturday mornings.

Generation Fit

This is a fun, energizing program that helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events. Taught by Jackie Alberti a certified instructor. This class is for anyone just starting out with exercise or just trying to keep in shape. Unlock the door to greater independence and a healthier life with Generation Fit. The class benefits include:

  • Access to conditioning classes, exercise equipment, using a chair, exercise band, and ball
  • Customized classes designed for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance
  • Choreographed to music for eye-hand coordination for your enjoyment held in the Gym

SilverSneakers© – MSROM – 10:15 am

Muscular, strength, Range of motion. Have fun and move to music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Taught by certified SS instructor, Jackie Alberti, who also has her degree in Exercise Science.

Total Body Blast

Total Body Blast with Alexa Connell is a great workout with various formats of interval training, circuit training, and tabatas in this “anything goes” class. Modifications will be given for all ages and fitness levels.

Yoga

Yoga fit marries traditional Hatha Yoga with a vinyasa flow mindset. Although this class does not use Sanskrit terminology, the poses are the same. Each class starts with one or two Sun Salutations followed by poses based on the knowledge/abilities of the participants that will not only challenge but improve on one’s balance, strength and flexibility. Every class is a little different.

Aqua Fit

This class is fun for all ages and fitness levels. Warm-up, cardio and strength along with some choreography, then a cool down with stretching. This class is great for those recovering from surgery (after getting your doctor’s release). You do not need to know how to swim to attend water aerobics. Please join Pat Hemminger for 45 minutes of fun while losing inches and gaining muscle and flexibility. Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:05 am or 8:05 am.

Aqua Boot Camp

Taught by Allison Taylor. This is another well-rounded class for anyone! It is lots of Interval training in the water and fun to work out to great music. Doing exercise in the water is great for anyone with joint, knee and hip problems. Feel the pressure leave as soon as you enter the water. And remember all the exercises can be modified to help you get started. You will be working on strengthening, plenty of Ab and cardio work.

Total Body Aqua

This aquatic exercise class combines cardiovascular exercises with core, strength, and stretching to give participants of all fitness levels a total body workout.

SilverSplash

A well-rounded class that involves using water weights, Noodles and or kickboards. Sometimes doing interval training and always well rounded. Feel free to try this class if you have arthritis and or joint problems. Anyone can take this class- make it hard as you like or if you are just starting out. Join Lacie Argotsinger who is certified in SliverSplash© only on Friday’s at 6:05 am/8:05 am.

Taekwondo

Thursdays, August 23-December 20 from 6-7:30 pm. You do NOT need to be a Petersen Family Wellness Member to enroll in this class. See the front desk or call 712.755.4344 for more information or to register for this class.

  • If Harlan Schools have a 2 Hour Late Start Due To Weather – No classes until 12 pm.
  • If there is NO SCHOOL for Harlan, No classes all day.
