The Shelby County Board of Health is requesting that all Shelby County residents follow Public Health guidance to reduce transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. These preventative measures include wearing masks in public, social distancing of six feet or more in public, and staying home if you are sick.
As of November 10th, positivity rates have risen to the current level of 24.8%, the 19th highest across the state. Currently, the level of community transmission is at a widespread and uncontrolled level creating a population health concern for all Shelby County community members.
Common causes for the high degree of community transmission include family gatherings, weddings, funerals, and social events. Additionally, Shelby County has experienced outbreaks in our local nursing homes, impacting this vulnerable and valued population. The upcoming holidays are of further concern as holiday gatherings are opportunities for the virus to spread rapidly throughout entire, extended families, further impacting the health of the community-at-large.
Measures to protect the health of the public from exposure to the coronavirus is requested from this time on until a significant reduction in transmission rates are achieved and there is a viable vaccine available to the public. Additional Board of Health steps may be necessary if Shelby County continues to have high levels of community coronavirus transmission.
