Facility Wide Additions + Renovations

Beginning in July 2023, Myrtue Medical Center began our 13-month addition and renovation to our Emergency Department (ED). Once complete, the new ED will include four exam rooms, two larger trauma rooms, two procedure rooms, and a triage room. Two of the rooms can also be converted to behavioral health rooms. The physical layout will allow for greater visibility and proximity to each patient room within the ED from a new centralized nursing station. Additionally, the design will accommodate a larger waiting room and more private check-in at admissions.

“Our ER staff has done a remarkable job of making the most of our current space.” said Myrtue CEO, Barry Jacobsen. “This expansion and renovation will allow our team to more efficiently and effectively provide lifesaving patient care.”

Temporary Emergency Department

Beginning on July 8, 2023, the temporary Emergency Department entrance will be located along Garfield Avenue at the Inpatient Visitor Entrance. There is exterior signage which can help direct patients to the new temporary entrance.

Patients seeking emergent care will enter on Garfield Avenue and check in at a temporary lobby and waiting area. We will keep this entrance for ED and Inpatient visitors of the hospital during the 13-month expansion and renovation process.

Helping Increasing Demand for Emergency Services

The expansion and renovation of Myrtue Medical Center’s Emergency Department (ED) will help address increasing demand for emergency services throughout the county. Myrtue Medical Center’s Board of Trustees approved a $7.7 million dollar expansion and renovation of the Emergency Department. With the receipt of grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in the amount of $1 million to spearhead the project, the hospital will move forward with renovation to increase space and improve workflow in the Emergency Department with the addition of patient rooms and staff work areas. Myrtue took a collaborative approach to designing the new ED. In addition to hiring Murray Company, a healthcare construction company that has designed other rural emergency departments, the planning team included Altus Architectural Studios, a healthcare industry-specific design firm.

More than 5,600 patients presented to the Hospital’s Emergency Department last year. Since 2021, the ER has had a 20 percent increase in patient visits. Renovation will provide over approximately 8,700 square feet of space, an expansion of about 3,400 square feet from the ER’s current footprint.

Cafeteria Remodel 2023 - 2024

The Hospital Board of Trustees approved a $1.4 million dollar renovation of the cafeteria and dining area in September 2023, and MMC began the cafeteria remodel on Monday, November 13, 2023. Construction is expected to be complete within approximately five months of start date. Among the enhancements and amenities will include a more spacious layout with improved flow in and out of the cafeteria, updated finishes and conveniences, and an outdoor seating area.

The renovation of Myrtue Medical Center's Café is a long-awaited and much-needed upgrade that will significantly improve the dining experience for visitors, patients, and staff. Here are some of the key features and benefits of the new facility:

  • Improved aesthetics: The remodel will feature modern and updated design elements, creating a fresh and welcoming look for the café. The new aesthetic will be more inviting for diners and contribute to a more pleasant dining experience.
  • More food options: With the new space, the café will be able to offer a wider variety of food options, including grab-and-go items, hot meals, and made-to-order dishes 24/7. This will provide more choices for customers and create a more diverse menu.
  • Enhanced technology: The new facility will feature state-of-the-art technology, including digital menu boards, self-checkout kiosks, and mobile ordering options. These technological advancements will improve the overall dining experience and create a more convenient process for customers.
