Ric E. Jensen, MD,PhD

About Ric

Ric Jensen, MD is a board-certified neurosurgeon who joined Neurosurgical Associates of Nebraska in 1998. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa and a post-doctoral degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Jensen then pursued neurological surgery training at the University of Texas Health Science Centers in Houston and Galveston. During his residency training, Dr. Jensen completed a formal, spinal surgery fellowship through the University of Texas Health System. During fellowship training, he acquired the ability to perform complex spinal surgery and spine fusions.

Dr. Jensen has extensive experience in the field of spinal biomechanics (the study of the mechanical function of spinal components). He treats all spinal pathologies commonly encountered in patients who present with spinal or nerve-related pain syndromes-including cervical and lumbar disc herniations, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc diseases productive of back and neck pain. Dr. Jensen utilizes spinal biomechanics knowledge to optimize patient treatment protocols and surgical planning minimizing surgical invasiveness and spinal disruption. Before completion of his residency in neurosurgery, Dr. Jensen also engaged in neurosurgical oncology fellowship training at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, top ranked cancer center in the country. During this training, he was exposed to a vast spectrum of brain and spinal tumor surgical treatments.

Dr. Jensen continues to treat benign and malignant brain and spinal tumors of all types, referring only complex tumor cases to his mentors at M.D. Anderson. As a means of maintaining an up-to-date and ever increasing knowledge base, he regularly gives surgical seminars and functions as an expert witness and legal advisor to investigate the neurologic and biomechanical foundations of adverse surgical outcomes and complex spinal and brain injuries.

Dr. Jensen was born and raised in Harlan, Iowa. He has long-standing roots in the Southwest Iowa and Omaha area. His pursuits outside the professional setting include golf, powerboat racing, biking, sailing, and ice hockey.
