Kailee Coleman shares her personal birth story photos at Myrtue's Birthing Center after delivering her daughter, Olive Madeline, on March 18, 2022. At Myrtue Medical's Birthing Center our team of physicians and nurses and lactation consultant want to do everything we can to make your birth plan come true. Take a look at the story below to get an idea of what your birth journey could be like at the Birthing Center!

When you first arrive at the Birthing Center, your OB nurse will be there to greet you. She will then help you get settled into your room and will help you get comfortable for your delivery.
The next step is your OB nurse hooks you up to the fetal heart monitor to see how mom and baby are doing. Our Novi System is wireless, so mom can be hooked up to the monitor and still move freely throughout the floor.
Walking the halls helps promote labor progress. The Birthing Center is on the third floor of Myrtue Medical Center and is secluded from any other patient areas of the hospital. You will have peace and quiet during your labor, delivery, and post-partum stay.
No matter how long your labor lasts, a wide variety of snacks and drinks are provided for both mom and support people.
It is important for everyone involved in delivery to keep their strength up!
Drinking water to stay hydrated is important too. Your OB nurse is able to get you water and ice chips whenever you start running low.
Excited to finally be helping welcome their little one into the world soon.
About every hour the OB nurse will want to place you back on the fetal heart monitor to check on both you and baby again.
Back up and walking the halls some more. Come on baby!
Just hanging out and allowing labor to do its thing. You have a complete private bathroom for all your toiletry needs.
Listening to music is one way to help relax.
Counter-pressure is another
non-medication coping measure.
Positive words and touch are important for mom to not get discouraged during labor.
Trying to rest between contractions helps with keeping your strength up to prep for pushing.
We offer many natural or
non-medicated, pain relief options including a whirlpool, essential oils, back massagers, affirmation cards, body positioning with the help of your nurse, and prenatal physical therapy.
If you choose to use medication to help manage your pain, an epidural, or an intrathecal, is placed by one of our nurse anesthetists. Each patient can choose their course for pain management: unmedicated or medicated. We fully support any choice our moms choose.
One of our OB nurses, Megan, is offering support and instruction on how to push.
It can sometimes take two to three hours of pushing to deliver your baby. Your support person(s) and your OB nurse(s) are here to help every step of the way!
Another one of our OB nurses, Michelle, is offering physical assistance by holding a leg while pushing.
OB/GYN, Dr. Kelly Anderson, is ready for delivery!
Finally, Olive arrives - crying and screaming is what everyone in the delivery room loves to hear.
This new dad cuts the cord and checks out his girls to make sure everything is okay.
The nurses are giving Olive and mom a quick look over. The first hour, also known as the Golden Hour, after labor is dedicated to skin-to-skin with mom to promote bonding and stabilization of the newborn.
During the golden hour, nurses will asses the baby. Everything can be done right there on mom with your support person(s) by your side.
This new family is now together.
What an experience, what a journey to have just delivered your baby.
Nothing beats a mother's love.
When mom and dad are ready, the nurse may weigh the baby
and get the footprints.
Your baby's pediatrician, or physician, will do their initial assessment of your newborn shortly after delivery.
