Cardiology

Cardiology is the study and treatment of disorders of the heart and the blood vessels. A cardiologist specializes in diagnosing and treating heart disease and cardiovascular disease. Heart disease relates to any disorder of the heart such as coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, myocardial infarction, or congestive heart failure. Cardiovascular disease affects the heart, blood vessels, or both, and generally involves blocked blood vessels, which can lead to heart attack or stroke.

Cardiac Rehab

Myrtue also offers a comprehensive Cardiac Rehab program providing attentive, compassionate care. Our Cardiac Rehab program seeks to help those who have experienced a heart attack, stent placement, bypass surgery, or valve replacement to make positive, heart-healthy lifestyle changes. Cardiac Rehab focuses on developing an exercise program to get the heart muscle back in shape after a cardiac event. Participants also receive patient education regarding heart disease and risk factors. Additionally, a consultation with MMC’s registered dietitian covers dietary concerns and ways to implement heart-healthy nutritional choices.

The program is a minimum of 18 sessions and can be as long as 36 sessions, depending on the patient’s needs and insurance coverage. Participants meet three times a week for about one hour. A physician referral is necessary to participate in the Cardiac Rehab program at Myrtue Medical Center. For more information on Cardiac Rehab, call 712.755.4461.
