Family Planning

Family Planning is a program available for women and men of all ages, including teens. We offer reproductive and other health services at low or often no cost to you. What do you need? Birth control? A test to see if you have a sexually transmitted infection? Your annual exam? Do you think you might be pregnant? We can help with all of those needs as well as your questions. Our family planning nurses and nurse practitioners can answer your questions and provide services such as annual exams, birth control supplies, pregnancy and STD tests.

HCCMS stands for the 5 west-central Iowa counties where we have offices located: Harrison, Crawford, Cass, Monona & Shelby counties in Iowa.

HCCMS Family Health Service

HCCMS Family Health Services offers confidential reproductive and general health services at little to no cost. Charges are based on insurance status and income. Our Shelby County office is located at 2712 12th Street, Harlan, Iowa.

Examples of services include:

  • Pregnancy testing
  • STD testing and treatment
  • Physical exams
  • Pre-conceptual counseling

Services Provided

Birth Control

Many different methods of birth control, including long-acting reversible contraception, are available through HCCMS Family Health Services. We provide the following at little or no cost to patients:

  • “The Pill” (oral contraceptives)
  • Implanon (arm implant)
  • ParaGard (IUD)
  • Mirena (IUD)
  • Nuva Ring (vaginal ring)
  • Ortho Evra (patch)
  • Depo Provera (injection)
  • Male condoms
  • Emergency contraception (Plan B, the morning after pill)


HCCMS Family Health Services offers reproductive exams for men and women. Breast and testicular exams are also provided. Patients also receive education on how to do self exams.
