Back to School - Immunizations

Myrtue Medical Center’s Department of Public Health has scheduled a Back-to-School Clinic on August 11th from 8 AM--6PM for VFC-eligible children. School-required vaccines typically impact children entering kindergarten, 7th grade and 12th grade. However, it is a good practice to regularly review your child’s vaccines to be sure that he/she is protected from all vaccine-preventable illnesses.

“As we navigate COVID-19, it remains essential for families to stay up-to-date on childhood immunizations,” said Myrtue Medical Center’s Public Health Department Director Lori Hoch. “Although immunization clinics will look a bit different this year, our nurses are committed to help students and families receive necessary immunizations in preparation for the coming school year.”

The Back-to-School clinic is by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please call Myrtue’s Public Health at 712.755.4308 for the August back-to-school clinic. Children who are eligible for no-cost, vaccine include:

  • Children with Medicaid insurance coverage
  • Children who do not have health insurance of any kind
  • Children who have insurance that does not pay for the cost of vaccine
  • Children who are of Native American or Alaskan Native origin.

To prepare for your immunization clinic appointment, here’s what you need to know:

  • Call to schedule an appointment before the date of the Back-to-School Clinic.
  • We will NOT accept walk-ins.
  • Please call 712.755.4308 upon arrival. Paperwork can be completed before your appointment or in your car upon arrival. Once paperwork has been completed, you will be taken directly to the immunization to limit in-house waiting.
  • Mask will be required to be worn at all times within the clinic.
  • Students may only be accompanied by one parent or guardian.
  • You will enter through the front door and exit through the side door to keep the clinic flow limited to a one-way direction.

This will be the only clinic provided by the Public Health Department for the back-to-school season. Parents are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to secure your time. If you have questions regarding your child’s immunization needs, please call Myrtue’s Public Health at 712.755.4422 for more information.
