REHABILITATION DEPARTMENT
Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapy
Our staff is dedicated to providing a comfortable and professional environment for our clients to succeed in their rehabilitation program and allow them to engage in their functional work, home, and leisure activities. We encourage clients to be involved in the rehab process and in the decisions regarding their care. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services are provided for inpatients, outpatients, and home health clients at MMC as prescribed by their physicians.
Physical Therapy Hours:
- Outpatient services Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Inpatient services 7 days per week
Occupational Therapy Hours:
- Outpatient services Monday through Friday 7:30 am through 5:00 pm
- Inpatient services Monday through Friday
Speech Therapy Hours:
- Call to schedule outpatient services
- Inpatient services Monday through Friday
Treatment/Services Provided:
Our highly trained staff provides treatment for a wide variety of clients, including those with the following:
- orthopedic conditions (i.e. joint replacement, rotator cuff injury or repair, back pain)
- vestibular or balance disorders
- wounds
- lymphedema
- neurological injuries such as stroke and Parkinson's Disease
- women's health and incontinence issues
- work-related injuries
- sports injury
- hand injuries/surgeries
- generalized weakness or post-surgical issues
- osteoporosis
- fall prevention
- swallowing disorders
- communication disorders from stroke, injuries, or progressive neurological disorders
- voice disorders
- Outpatient pediatric rehabilitation
- home health
- pediatric speech therapy to include articulation, language, fluency, voice and pragmatics
Meet Our Staff:
The PT/OT/ST staff consists of three full-time Physical Therapists, three part-time Physical Therapists, three full-time Physical Therapy Assistants, two full-time Occupational Therapists, two full-time speech therapists, three full-time and one part-time rehab technicians.
- Steve Finn, PT, CSCS, is a full-time licensed physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist. Steve has been employed at Myrtue since 1993 as the rehab director, and has been a practicing therapist since 1992. He has developed and implemented many programs for the department, including a strength and conditioning camp that ran for several summers, and most recently a balance and fall prevention program. Steve is also trained in McKenzie techniques for spine rehabilitation.
- Linda Reinig, PT, is a part-time licensed physical therapist who began employment at Myrtue in 1974. She specializes in women's health issues including osteoporosis and incontinence rehabilitation. She is also certified in manual lymph drainage for the treatment of lymphedema.
- Darla Miller, PTA, is a full-time licensed physical therapist assistant who has been with Myrtue since 1988. She specializes in wound care and is licensed in advanced debridement. Darla is also a certified personal trainer and instructor for the Forever Fit class at McDowell Fitness Center, focusing on exercise for the aging population and those beginning exercise programs.
- Suzanne Goshorn, PTA, is also a full-time licensed physical therapist assistant at MMC. She began employment at Myrtue in 2001 and has been practicing since 1999. Suzanne specializes in the rehabilitation of patients with acute congestive heart failure and is certified in manual lymph drainage for lymphedema.
- Stephanie Harder, DPT, joined the MMC staff in May 2006 as a licensed physical therapist and is currently working part-time in the department. She has been instrumental in the post-offer/pre-placement work screenings and ergonomic programs offered through the rehab department in conjunction with Occupational Health Outreach. Stephanie has been instrumental in the development of the outpatient pediatric therapy program at MMC as well.
- Shelli Brand, DPT, is a full-time licensed physical therapist who has been employed with Myrtue since June 2006. Shelli also completed one of her clinical experiences here at MMC. She is certified in manual lymph drainage techniques for the treatment of lymphedema and is our other lead pediatric physical therapist.
- Eric Chipman, DPT, joined our staff as a full-time licensed physical therapist in January 2008. He has been practicing as a physical therapist since May 2006 after graduating from Creighton University. Eric's special interest areas include orthopedic and aquatic rehabilitation.
- Stacy Torneten, PT, ATC, began her employment at MMC as a part-time licensed physical therapist in August 2007. She has been working as a physical therapist since 1999, and has been a certified athletic trainer since 1995. Stacy's practice has included a variety of diagnoses, but with specific focus in the orthopedic arena.
- Makayla Tremel, PTA, is a full-time licensed physical therapist assistant who has recently been employed with Myrtue Medical Center in September 2009. Makayla also completed one of her clinical experiences here at MMC.
- Janelle Sears, MS, OTR/L, has been employed as a full-time licensed occupational therapist at Myrtue since 1997. In addition to providing occupational therapy for the inpatient, outpatient, and home health clients at Myrtue, she has specialized in the area of vestibular rehabilitation, workstation/ergonomic evaluation and rehabilitation, and is also certified in manual lymph drainage techniques for the treatment of lymphedema.
- Sharla Rau, OTR/L, began employment at MMC as a full-time licensed occupational therapist in 2007. She has been practicing since 2001. Sharla specializes in the rehabilitation of patients with acute cardiac conditions at Creighton University Medical Center for five years before continuing her therapy career at MMC. She is also certified in manual lymph drainage techniques for the treatment of lymphedema.
- Linda Bolton (employed at Myrtue since 1991), Michelle Mulligan (employed at Myrtue since 1997), Mandee Meyers (employed at MMC since 2005), and Jill Manz (employed since 2009) are the rehabilitation technicians that help keep the department running efficiently. They are responsible for registering outpatients and the daily paperwork in the office as well as assisting with patient care.
- Amanda Handley, MS, CFY-SLP, (employed since January 2009) and Katie Collins, MS, CFY-SLP (September 2009) are the full-time licensed speech-language pathologists at MMC. They provide services for inpatients, outpatients, and home-health patients. Areas of practice include: diagnostic, consultative, and direct speech therapy services for adults and children with communication and/or swallowing impairments. They also complete video fluoroscopic swallowing evaluations in conjunction with the Radiology Department.
