Myrtue Medical Center to Install Advanced 16-Slice CT
New Technology Enables MMC to Provide Faster, More Accurate Diagnoses

Harlan, Iowa - April 7, 2006

Myrtue Medical Center will install a SOMATOM® EMOTION 16 scanner from Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. to their radiology department. The new CT scanner improves diagnosis and treatment of patients in Harlan and surrounding areas.

The new SOMATOM CT provides the finest image quality while reducing X-ray dose to the patient. Its innovative design provides optimal patient comfort by eliminating the closed-in feeling that patients sometimes associate with CT scanning.

“Our new CT scanner enables us to provide even better patient care,” said Robin Nelson, R.T.(R)(M)(CT), director of radiology. “Patients will benefit from increased comfort, lower dose and faster scan times. For our clinical staff, the diagnostic detail available through the Emotion 16 enables us to provide even more accurate diagnoses and treatment.”

The Emotion 16 features a 12 second acquisition time. In the past, it could take up to one minute to acquire a suitable image. “Increased patient throughput means the patient spends less time on the table and that our clinicians can provide a diagnosis and treatment earlier,” Nelson said.

The SOMATOM Emotion also allows the center to expand diagnostic services to substantially more patients in the region than ever before. Clinical benefits of the multi-slice technology include:

  • Vascular Diagnosis: syngo Vessel View enables Myrtue Medical Center to evaluate whole body vessels, dedicated workflow for coronary arteries, intuitive measurement tools and stenosis quantification and real-time updating of cross-sectional views.
  • Lung Care: Based on a high-resolution, low dose CT examination of the lungs and thin slice reconstruction, the entire lung volume can be evaluated in freely selectable slice thicknesses.
  • WorkStream4D eliminates manual reconstruction steps by directly generating axial, sagittal, coronal or double-oblique images from standard scan protocols.
  • CARE Solutions ensure excellent imaging results, shorter examination times and the lowest possible radiation exposure.

Myrtue Medical Center is a county hospital offering an extensive variety of health care services, including inpatient and outpatient care, physical and occupational therapy, home & public health, hospice, obstetrics, diagnostic services, emergency care and health education.
