Overview

Myrtue Medical Center is not your "typical" rural hospital.  Our newly integrated health care facility incorporates the Harlan, Avoca, Shelby and Elk Horn medical clinics as well as behavioral health.

Myrtue was awarded critical access hospital status in August of 2005.  This means we are now licensed for 25 beds and will receive a higher Medicare reimbursement for our services which will allow us to remain viable with state of the art equipment and services.

Myrtue's medical staff includes board-certified medical providers and extenders with specialties in family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, women's health issues and surgery.

The hospital operates a modern and well-equipped surgery suite, family birthing center, physical and occupational therapy and sports medicine, radiology, laboratory, respiratory therapy, occupational health outreach, and the full spectrum of outpatient clinic services.

Our Community Health Department encompasses home health, public health, hospice and behavioral health covering the needs of all ages including our new Kids Korner, a free program for families of young children to provide better health care and school readiness.

"Live Well' is the theme of our McDowell Fitness Center located in the basement of the Harlan Medical Clinic.  Featuring all types of exercise equipment including strength training and free weights, as well as step aerobic, ball, yoga classes and personal training, the Fitness Center can help you stay healthy and fit.

In November of 2005, Myrtue Medical Center assumed ownership of the Harlan, Shelby, Elk Horn and Avoca medical clinics making them rural health clinics, with a revitalized patient care focus and the opportunity of receiving a higher reimbursement for our services.  Jean Stamp, ARNP, is our newest medical practitioner providing evening hours at the Harlan Clinic Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

We are proud of our staff, leadership and medical practitioners who have dedicated their lives to the utmost quality of health care for all of us.  Myrtue Medical Center has a vision for the future…and compassionate care for today.
